Cigar Label Grading Scale was introduced as an attempt to standardize the language used to describe the condition of cigar label art. Grading is an art not a science. Therefore it is not a perfect system but when the standards are applied in good faith by the parties involved, it should be easier to have a meeting of the minds. SOME POINTERS TO CONSIDER WHEN GRADING A CIGAR LABEL 1. Grade from the image out. i.e.: Are there any flaws in the image itself? While the front of the label is the most important part to consider when grading, check the back of the label for paper thins, tears or glue marks. Any problems on the back of the label should be considered when grading it. 2. Observe if there is any significant after-factory trimming. Labels with good margins are worth more to collectors than those that have been significantly trimmed. 3. Over-all eye appeal is one of the most important factors when evaluating a label. 4. There is no better way to learn about grading labels than to look at as many labels as possible. Take note of each title's size and the type of paper it's printed on. Notice if the label has gilding or embossing and if it has any major flaws. |
