What is the InStone 100?

How was it compiled?

The InStone 100, a blue chip cigar label index published by InStone, Inc., is a compilation of very desirable and highly sought-after cigar label art representing a diverse sampling of themes. This index is updated annually for price changes and can be used as a tool to track future price movements (see chart below). It is a product of years of research, surveys and discussions with other dealers and collectors. We will track the prices of The InStone 100 every February.

Several criteria were taken into consideration when compiling this index, including image desirability, price, availability and diversity of themes. Image desirability was the most important criteria used; labels were chosen based on how well known and popular they are with dealers and collectors.

Price was also considered very carefully to reflect the overall market. The labels are grouped into four price categories (under $100, $100-$250, $250-$500 and over $500). Collectors have the option to collect labels from all or any price categories.

Availability is important because to accurately track price movements, trades need to take place. All these labels will generally be traded during the course of one year. This is important for collectors because to complete  collections, labels must be available for sale. Only labels that are available in Very Fine or better condition have been chosen for this compilation.

The index contains at least 15 major themes to better reflect the overall market: patriotic, money, Indians and cowboys, transportation, animals, sports, buildings, Cupid, birds, famous people, pretty women, fantasy, African-American and cultures.

Below you will find each InStone 100 label pictured with its estimated retail value in Excellent condition.
